Cell Phone web servers

Mobile bloggers get ready, French SIM card maker releases news on a cell phone web server SIM card.

French SIM card-maker Axalto has come up with what it believes is the perfect solution for mobloggers: a SIM-based web server.

According to the company, its new U2 SIM provides TCP/IP connectivity, allowing users to save blog entries and other info directly to the card, making it accessible via the net whenever the phone is on.

Axalto said its new SIM technology enables phone users to publish blogs and store them on the SIM cards used in phones that access GSM-based cellular systems, which are nearly universally used in Europe and by Cingular and T-Mobile in the U.S. The SIM card acts as a personal Web server, according to the company.

The company claims that it would take users only a single click to publish the multimedia blog and that others could immediately access the mobile blog either from PCs or other cell phones.

Axalto said that the system combines expanded memory on SIM cards, which are used to store subscriber information. Also built into the SIM card is TCP/IP support so that the phone can be connected to the Internet. The company said it is targeting cellular operators with the technology. The operators could then make it available to users.
