Skype is on fire. Recently bought out by eBay, and with a ton of new features available for its popular free voip calling tool.
Skype is a bit of software that lets you make free calls to your friends all over the world. And best of all, It’s free.
Skype in a nutshell.
Skype’s software is quick and easy to get started with. Download, register, install, plug in your headset, speakers or USB phone and start calling your friends. The calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with end-to-end encryption. You don’t even need to configure your firewall or router or any other networking gear.
Skype Zones
With Skype Zones, you can now access Skype and make calls from more than 18,000 Skype-friendly internet hot spots round the world.
Skype Zones BETA is a little piece of software powered by Boingo that gives you access to Skype through thousands of Skype-friendly hot spots, while you’re on the move. So now when you’re at your favourite café or waiting quietly at the airport, you don’t have to count the tic-tac of your watch, instead you can just talk to your friends on Skype.
Skype Web Toolbar
The Skype Web Toolbar lets you combine Skype with your web browser. It recognises phone numbers and Skype Names on web pages so you can call them with one click, through Skype.
You can also use the Skype Web Toolbar to:
- * Call and chat to your existing contacts
- * Change your online status
- * See how much Skype Credit you have left
- * Automatically send a contact a link to the web page you’re viewing
SkypeIn
With SkypeIn, you can get your own, regular phone number. So if your friends who aren’t using Skype want to call you by dialing a regular number, you can still receive the call in Skype. No matter where you are.
So, if you have a Chicago-based SkypeIn number, but you’re living somewhere in the suburbs of Paris, your Chicago area friends - or anyone! - can just dial your SkypeIn number, and your Skype on the other side of the world starts ringing… and your friends are only paying whatever their phone company charges them for making a phone call to Chicago.
Of course people from everywhere in the world can call your SkypeIn number; but if your SkypeIn number is in the United States and they call from another country, they pay for the international nature of the call. And if you have friends in many places, you can get up to 10 SkypeIn numbers in different places and keep them guessing as to where you really are!
