Get ready for mobile social networking

Social networking users are starting the movement towards creating mobile content, with recent predictions seeing revenues topping out at $6 billion by 2012.

Thus far, social networking revenues are hovering around the $572 million range, analysts predict that social networking services will increase drastically as it shifts to the mobile world. Currently 14 million users access social networking sites from their mobile devices, that is supposed to explode to 600 million by 2012. Among those users, the US has the largest number of users with 7.5 million. Next in line is Italy with 1.3 million, and the UK sits in 3rd with 1.3 million cell phone using social networkers.

Whats worse than an iPhone that doesn’t work? Perhaps one with a few dead spots lurking on the screen. Some users might have had a hard time finally getting an activated iPhone, but what happens when that brilliant screen starts burning out?

It seems that some Apple iPhone users are starting to complain on discussion boards about the pixel problem on their mobile devices. Although its not known how many users this might present an issue with, Apple appears to be replacing the defective units.

WiFi Webmail users beware

There are tools on the marketplace that can intercept login and password details, as well as steal other data. The BBC spoke to an internet security specialist that runs through important information to remember when using public access points, as well as application loopholes that could sprout malicious attacks.

American Airlines to get WiFi

As WiFi availability becomes a differentiating factor when choosing anything from a cafe to a hotel, Airlines are slowly getting this. American Airlines has announced that they will be launching broadband access in the air. AirCell will be the supplier testing out the high speed broadband connections starting in early 2008 on transcontinental flights, with WiFi being rolled out on domestic flights at a later date.

This high speed internet connection will allow for VPN access through WiFi enabled laptops and PDA devices, and offer a complete scalable solution on American’s Boeing 767-200 aircrafts. Signals sent through the aircrafts cabin will be 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi signals.

Forget iPhones, NASA is all about Blackberry’s

Quick, name the top business device in North America. Blackberry! Even NASA knows that.

The NASA team including astronauts and other employees will most likely be getting some fresh new Blackberry’s to stay in touch with each other. Apple’s iPhone was on the list, but unfortunately got knocked off because they are not enterprise ready. The decision made by NASA’s outsourcing office could have been sparked by a few security concerns that the device may have. So Apple iPhone it may not be, but new Blackberry 8800’s from RIM, or Palm Treo 750’s could be surfing the mobile web and catching NASA emails very shortly.
