Netflix not just for the web anymore

Netflix, the online DVD rental company, was once only available, well, online. The company has announced their plans to work with LG to offer movie set top boxes.

The Netflix/LG set top boxes will allow subscribers to watch movies that are streamed from the web directly to their TV’s. The TV streaming feature would be included in the Netflix PC instant viewing package that is priced from $4.99 to $16.99 month. As for the LG device, no prices have been released, but there is talk about it being incorporated into the dual DVD player that supports Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Netflix currently boasts 7 million subscribers and 90,000 titles through their mail order DVD service. Will this be just the begining of a shift and collaboration from web into the real world? Apple TV has tried this option, which hasnt seemed to gain much traction thus far. Maybe people just arent ready yet?
