Google patent to read text in images and video

What was the main goal of Google? oh yes, to index the worlds content. Well, of course they are still pushing along with it, and have some interesting patent applications available for public viewing.

Patent applications that were recently made public from July 2007, talk about methods to make computers read and understand text in images as well as video. Meaning that one day, Google search will index this huge array of content in images and video to get much more relevant results, and a vast collection of options. This of course, includes all images that are taken in Picasa, Flickr and Google Streetview, making for a massive inventory of local search results.

This is a huge step for search technology. What a year 2008 is shaping up to be for Google already.
