Yahoo! has one of the hottest mobile applications around. It’s fun, quick and simple to use allowing all content to be right at your fingertips when you need it. Now there is Yahoo! Go 3.0 with an open mobile widget platform.
Yahoo! will be officially announcing the hot new features later today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. They have seemed to have taken the lead in this space, designing their new update with user feedback from Yahoo! Go 2.0 users, and packing it with things that users actually want. First up is the Go 3.0 platform, Yahoo! has enhanced the user interface and optimized it for the smaller mobile screen sizes, beefed up performance, and opened up a third party widget platform. Perhaps one new feature added that users will rejoice over is the choice of viewing. Users will now have the option of viewing in Go’s traditional carousel view, or in a new icon based layout.
The new Open Mobile Widget Platform has been designed for developers to create mobile based widgets for users. With widgets created by the likes of eBay, MySpace and MTV, this will surely add more user control and a greater experience all around for Yahoo! Go users. The SDK for developers will be unleashed in the next few weeks, and will allow developers to publish content across Yahoo!’s mobile network.
Last up is the new home page widget will allow users to get where they want faster, and also get a glimpse of their newest content including how many new emails, upcoming calendar appointments, new Flickr photos and a collection of favorite customizable content like weather, sports and news headlines snippets.
The new Yahoo! Go 3.0 will be open to download today at http://go.yahoo.com for US based consumers on select mobile devices. Not to worry if it wont work for you yet, Yahoo! Go 3.0 will roll out to a few hundred more devices worldwide in the upcoming months.
